Who is Robert Wiener?

A lifelong resident of Westchester County, NY, Bob is the third generation to lead his family’s real estate business and turn the profits, not just into more real estate, but into constructive, productive, loving and gracious giving to those who need a bit of help.  He teaches his children and grandchildren that the true purpose of life is to give back.

Bob is a graduate of Coe College and attended the New York University Graduate School of Business.  He currently sits on the Boards of UJA-Federation, Cancer Support Team, ArtsWestchester, The Emelin Theatre, MOMENT Magazine, and IDC Herzliya in Israel.  He is a major supporter of such diverse organizations as FIDF, OR Movement, Hebrew Union College, Westchester Community College, AIPAC, Rye Arts Center, Community Resource Center, and the Westchester Philharmonic.

Robert Wiener joined his father in business in 1966.  He has spent the past 54 years growing the Wiener Family Companies, a closely held group of private companies, from a local real estate company  with 12 employees, to a national organization employing more than 400 associates in 27 cities and seven states.  He is especially proud to have welcomed his three sons to the 84-year old company.

Wiener Family Companies (WFC) does business through its two main companies:  MAXX Properties, which manages the company’s 10,000+ apartment homes and provides third-party management services to an additional 3,700 cooperative and condominium units in the New York metropolitan area; and MAXX Realty, which provides sales and leasing services.  The “MAXX” companies are named after Bob’s grandfather, the founder of this 4th generation, family-owned enterprise.

Bob’s vision and leadership have positioned WFC as the owner/manager of apartments that residents want to live in, employees want to work for, and vendors want to do business with.  Focused acquisitions, attention to detail in the delivery of customer service, and a passion for a workplace that supports family values are the hallmarks of his leadership.

A leader who values the contributions and sacrifices of his associates, Bob has shaped his style of management to inspire   a commitment to service and excellence in his team of managers.  Borrowing from the same nurturance he has dedicated to strengthening the bonds in his own family, WFC has achieved impressive results and recently initiated a generational transition.  Bob’s eldest son assumed the responsibilities of Vice Chair at the end of 2016, after serving as Chief Executive Officer for more than three years.

He is married to the former Sherry Gershuny, is the father of 5 children, and the grandfather of 27.

Robert's Philanthropic Vision

Bob’s vision, values, and passion have defined his leadership in both business and community. He is strongly committed to “giving back” to society by providing opportunities for those whose futures may be in jeopardy and by investing in our children, building confidence and enabling positive growth and happier lives. Through his support of education and the arts, and his special passion for Israel and the future of its youth, Bob and his wife, Sherry, are dedicated to identifying and supporting many worthy organizations whose missions reflect a belief in the possibilities and dreams to which everyone should be entitled.

PHILANTHROPIC IMPACT:  The impact is sometimes difficult to measure: does a scholarship affect just the student to whom it is given? Or does it affect his or her parents, siblings, future offspring...and even possibly the future of the country? When we make commitments to programs or to individuals, our hopes and dreams go beyond any specific project or person: we hope to ignite a spark that will improve a life, enlighten a community, set a new direction or inspire new ideas!

Promoting and providing educational opportunities to at-risk youth is a hallmark of the Wiener Philanthropy.  Scholarships are provided to college-bound students in the U.S. and Israel; Head Start Programs are funded; soldiers returning from active duty are provided with funds to help assure their successful entry into collegiate study.  The “gift” of education provides a motivating path to success for students whose parents may not have the means to assist them.

MAXX Properties

In 1906, European emigrant Max Wiener landed in New York in search of personal freedom and opportunity for himself and his family. He struggled through the early years, gradually building on his craft as a professional furrier. In 1936 Max partnered with his son Ralph (a first generation college graduate and lawyer) to purchase a 48-unit apartment building in Brooklyn, founding what would eventually become MAXX Properties.

Thirty years later, Ralph’s son, Robert, joined them in their growing family business. Under Robert’s subsequent leadership, MAXX Properties has grown into a dynamic, financially sound, residential real estate organization doing business in six states. Today, the fourth generation is at the helm with Robert’s three sons—Vice Chairman Rick and Managing Directors David and Andrew—and the business is stronger than ever. A commitment to excellence continues to be the hallmark of MAXX Properties as we move confidently into the future.
